Over 300 of the 489 individuals impacted by John Deere's layoffs last week were located in the Quad Cities and worked in Eastern Iowa and Illinois. The massive farm company had already hinted that many employees' fates will be revealed at a meeting last Wednesday, indicating upcoming layoffs.

John Deere said that 298 employees at its Moline headquarters were let go on Wednesday in a letter to the state of Illinois. This reduces the whole workforce at the corporate office to 1,993. Numerous managerial and senior jobs, head of staff, accountants, and other positions were affected by the layoffs.

Additionally, 21 employees at John Deere's East Moline Harvester Works were laid off, impacting multiple engineering and management positions. The total employment at East Moline Harvester Works now stands at 2,192.

Despite these permanent layoffs, both the Moline headquarters and the East Moline Harvester Works facilities will remain open. Employees affected by the layoffs will receive an additional 60 days of compensation.

In Iowa, Deere officials notified the state of 170 additional layoffs, with 34 workers affected at John Deere Dubuque Works, 67 at John Deere Financial in Johnston, and 69 at John Deere Waterloo Works. These layoffs also took effect last Wednesday.

Over the past 12 months, John Deere has laid off more than 2,000 employees in the Eastern Iowa region. The company cited rising operational costs and reduced customer demand as key factors driving the decision to reduce its workforce.
