HOUSTON– Exxon Mobil has issued layoff notices to 59 employees following its recent $60 billion acquisition of Pioneer Natural Resources. This comes as part of a broader workforce reshuffle, per the Texas Workforce Commission.

Following the acquisition, which has garnered attention because to its scope and significance, more than 1,500 Pioneer workers were extended employment offers to join Exxon. Just about 2,200 people worked at Pioneer Natural Resources prior to the takeover.

39 workers from Las Colinas, a Dallas suburb of Irving, Texas, which functioned as Pioneer Natural Resources' previous headquarters, are among those laid off. Two workers from the Concho Valley in West Texas and eighteen employees from Midland in the Permian Basin are among the remaining layoffs.

Exxon has not disclosed how many of the 59 affected employees will be laid off or how many will be offered new positions within the company. The company stated that the employees who received layoff notifications have either been offered transition roles or have declined offers to join Exxon.

The merger has significantly expanded Exxon’s footprint in the Permian Basin, combining Pioneer's more than 850,000 net acres in the Midland Basin with Exxon's existing 570,000 net acres in the Delaware and Midland Basins. This strategic move is expected to enhance Exxon's production capabilities and strengthen its position as a leading player in the U.S. oil and gas industry.

The workforce adjustments are part of Exxon’s efforts to streamline operations and integrate the newly acquired assets and personnel into its existing structure. The company has emphasized its commitment to retaining as many employees as possible while ensuring a smooth transition and continued growth in the Permian Basin.
