Former DCist staffers launch worker-owned local news site
Six former staffers at DCist – the local daily news site which WAMU acquired in 2018 and shuttered in February – are set to launch a worker-owned local news website. The site, called The 51st, will not be a relaunch of DCist. For one, founders say it’ll be a weekly newsletter instead of a daily news site. But The 51st will feature the sort of content DCist was known for: event guides, curiosities, the quirks of D.C. life and history, and deeply reported stories.

Man arrested in connection with non-contact shooting on Bay Bridge
An Anne Arundel County man was arrested Wednesday for a non-contact shooting that occurred on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in June. Melvin Clark, 41, of Severn was identified as a suspect in the incident and taken into custody. He was charged with first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, driving a vehicle while impaired by alcohol and other charges.
Grand jury indicts three for attempted murder
Three men who allegedly stole over $2,000 worth of merchandise from a Dunkirk grocery store and then allegedly attempted to kill two state troopers while trying to get away have each been served 13-count indictments by a Calvert County grand jury. The indictments charging the defendants — Jordan Green, 27, of Bowie, Shadeed Gregory Graham Jr., 24, of Capitol Heights, and Malik Demencio Lewis, 27, of Hagerstown — with the alleged crimes that occurred July 11 were handed down Monday. ...
