New owners for Mod Pizza
Several weeks after the closing of the last Mod Pizza in Montgomery County, the struggling chain has been sold. Mod Pizza is now a division of Elite Restaurant Group, a California firm that already owned a half-dozen other pizza chains. Mod had been teetering on the brink of bankruptcy, closing several dozen locations (including Kentlands) in the months before it went dark at Rockville’s Montrose Crossing. No word yet on what will replace it at this location.

Gunfire strikes residence during Germantown shooting
Montgomery County detectives are investigating a shooting in Germantown on Wednesday night in which bullets struck a residence, according to police. Police said Thursday in a statement that a preliminary investigation revealed a residence was struck during the incident in the 20000 block of Staffordshire Drive and the shooting suspects had fled the scene. Construction update on new Wegmans-anchored development in Rockville (Photos)
The opening of the new Wegmans grocery store at B.F. Saul's Twinbrook Quarter development on Rockville Pike at Halpine Road won't take place until sometime next year. But The Milton apartments upstairs in the development's Phase 1 building are now expected to welcome their first residents this fall. The leasing office is now open, and a website for The Milton is now active. Construction workers are finishing the upper level residential interiors, and completing punch lists of required items to meet the requirements for approval by code inspectors from the City of Rockville.
