Georgetown Women’s Golf Fall Schedule 2024: Defending Title at Princeton Invitational
The Georgetown University women's golf team, sponsored by MedStar Health, has unveiled its fall 2024 schedule comprising four tournaments in different states, revisiting some events after years. The season kicks off at the Cougar Classic hosted by the College of Charleston on September 9 and 10, where they last played in 2019. They will then compete in the Cavalier Regional Preview at the University of Virginia, followed by defending their title at the Princeton Invitational, and wrapping up at the Blue Hen Invitational hosted by the University of Delaware.
Worker-led nonprofit newsroom launched by WAMU/DCist alumni
WAMU and DCist alumni have launched The 51st — a worker-led nonprofit newsroom that will serve the District of Columbia. This launch comes just five months after WAMU executives abruptly closed DCist, fired 16 workers and took the site’s archive offline. The 51st is the product of six people — all formerly employed by WAMU and/or DCist — who were alarmed at yet another community outlet being shuttered against the larger backdrop of local news being decimated nationwide.

Appliance Fire Causes ~$100,000 in Damage
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to the 1500blk of Grandin Ave, off Broadwood Dr in Rockville on Wednesday for the report of a house fire. According to MCFRS Spokesperson Pete Piringer on Thursday morning, the fire started on an entertainment center with several potential ignition sources, including a television, VCR, cable box, and router. The fire was ruled accidental, but the specific appliance that caused it could not be determined.
