Kraken Goalie Joey Daccord Knows You're Never Too Old To Guilt-Trip Dad
By Glenn Dreyfuss,

Seattle Kraken goalie Joey Daccord once shamed his father into flying halfway around the world to watch him sit on the bench for three hours.
(Do I have your attention? I thought so.)
One week into the Kraken's existence in 2021, goalie Chris Driedger had to be placed on injured reserve. Daccord was called up from Charlotte of the American Hockey League.
Philipp Grubauer started the first four games in franchise history, so Daccord gave him a breather in Seattle's October 19 game at New Jersey. He made 29 saves, allowing three goals in a 4-2 loss to the Devils.
Then Joey Daccord placed a call of his own, to father Brian Daccord.
Keep in mind that the elder Daccord was once a goalie himself. He owns a hockey school, “Stop it Goaltending,” is the Boston University Terriers goalie coach, and consults around the world.
Numerous NHL teams have called on Brian Daccord's expertise. He's served as goaltending coach of the Boston Bruins, scout for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and director of goaltending development for the Arizona Coyotes.
Brian was in Zurich when Joey told his father he'd been recalled to serve as backup for the first home game in Kraken history. "He says, 'Dad, can you come to the game?'" Brian recalled on The Rink Shrinks podcast . "I'm like, 'Dude, I'm in Switzerland.'"
The Swiss city of Zurich is roughly 5,260 air miles from Climate Pledge Arena.
"I'm paraphrasing," Brian Daccord continued. "He basically says, 'All the other dads are coming.'"
One thing we omitted from Brian Daccord's bio: he's written three books.
One is titled, "How To Be A Goalie Parent." A photo of son Joey graces the cover; Joey and brother Alex wrote the foreword.
You don't think the man who wrote, "How To Be A Goalie Parent" was going to disappoint his goalie son, do you?
Even if said son wasn't scheduled to play, and the last-minute travel arrangements would be just short of a nightmare?
"It took me 23 hours to get there," said Brian, "but I got there an hour-and-a-half before game time." The Daccords both sat and watched as the Kraken lost 4-2 to the Vancouver Canucks in the first NHL game at Climate Pledge Arena.
