The Seattle Kraken pulled off a buzzer-beater with veteran forward Jordan Eberle.

The morning of the NHL trade deadline, the two sides agreed to a new two year contract, with an average annual value of $4.75 million.

Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff had reported Eberle was pushing for a third year on the contract; if true, it was a condition he was willing to forgo. Eberle had said previously he desired to remain in Seattle.

The 33-year-old forward, in his 14th NHL season, was in the final months of a five-year contract originally signed while with the NY Islanders.

Eberle is an original Kraken, selected from the Islanders in the 2021 expansion draft. Staying with the Kraken means he will celebrate two upcoming milestones here.

At home Tuesday against the Vegas Golden Knights, Eberle is on track to play his 1,000th NHL game. He's also four away from 300 career goals.

The native of Regina, Saskatchewan has found his scoring touch as Seattle has made a long-shot playoff push. Ten of Eberle's 14 goals this season have come in the 2024 portion of the schedule.

Kraken fans will always have a warm spot in their hearts for "Ebs," who scored a dramatic overtime goal at home to beat Colorado in Game 4 of last year's Stanley Cup playoffs.

And if coach Dave Hakstol has any flair for the dramatic, Eberle will be one of the starters when Seattle hosts the Winnipeg Jets tonight so he can receive a deserved ovation.
