Seattle Kraken goalie Philipp Grubauer really took the Climate Pledge Arena "Green Night" promotion to heart.

Grubauer saved a vast number of Arizona Coyotes shots in the 2nd period, making sure to recycle the puck back into play rather than let it go to waste in his net.

When his 4th consecutive start - and third win - was complete, Grubauer had stopped all 39 Arizona shots in a 5-0 Seattle victory.

Rookie Shane Wright scored his fourth goal in four games since his callup from the AHL. Andre Burakovsky added a power play marker before the game was three minutes old, and the Kraken never looked back.

    1st Period

Two minutes. Two shots. Two goals.

Shane Wright, fresh off a two-goal, one assist evening in Anaheim on Friday, puts Seattle on top 68 seconds in.

Coyotes netminder Karel Vejmelka probably should have made the stop, but when you're hot like Wright's been...

If Scrabble allowed proper names, Arizona's Maksymilian Szuber would be worth, what, 200 points? In ice hockey, he's worth two minutes for holding.

Andre Burakovsky doesn't get a double word score, but he does double the Kraken's score on the power play at 2:14.

Defenseman Ryker Evans, the trailer on a 3-on-2, sends a bullet into Vejmelka's chest. This was just after Burakovsky barely missed on a 2-on-1. Someone please go down to the Coyotes bench and let them know the game has started.

Oliver Bjorkstrand with a crowd-pleasing reverse hit, sending Logan Cooley hard onto his wallet.

Because 19-year-old 3rd overall draft picks aren't supposed to be touched, Clayton Keller objects. Keller and Bjorkstrand receive matching minors.

Matias Maccelli gets loose on a breakaway, but can't quite get the puck to settle down. Grubauer smothers his shot, one of nine saves in the period. Seattle had seven SOG.

    2nd Period

Another odd-man rush for Seattle, Bjorkstrand feeding defenseman Justin Schultz - no, you didn't read that backwards. Schultz, usually paid to prevent goals, makes a pinpoint shot over Vejmelka's glove for a 3-0 Seattle lead at 4:29.

Anxious sequence for the Kraken: two Grubauer saves, a post hit and a penalty. Seattle survives that, and kills the Jordan Eberle slash.

Three more Coyote whacks, three more Grubauer saves. In the first 12 minutes of the period, Arizona has 15 shots; still no goals.

Jack McBain's grade-A from in close is also stopped by Grubauer; McBain slams his stick on the ice in frustration on his way to the bench.

Not for the first time recently, Kraken defenseman Ryker Evans makes a cameo as the last line of defense. Evans steers a puck out of danger after it'd gotten behind his goalie.

Liam O'Brien is the latest to be foiled by Grubauer, somehow turning away O'Brien from 15 feet straight on.

Shots favor Arizona 17-9 in a wide open 2nd period, 25-16 for the game. Goals, though, are 3-0 Seattle.

    3rd Period

The intermission didn't cool off the Seattle goaltender. Grubauer makes a fine blocker save on Cooley's power move to the cage.

The Seattle offense remains hot, too. Yanni Gourde feeds Brandon Tanev, who redirects into the open net. 4-0 Kraken at 6:38.

Before the pass, Gourde shouldered a Coyote off the puck. Kraken, petition the NHL to get Yanni 1.5 assists.

Poor Karel Vejmelka. The Coyotes goalie squeezes his pads together to stop a knuckling Will Borgen shot. Except the puck has already found his five-hole for a 5-0 Kraken lead at 9:35.

Vejmelka had won four of last five starts, including a 2-1 overtime victory over Seattle Mar. 22 in Tempe.

Ouch! Kraken rookie center Logan Morrison takes a puck off his skate. He has trouble rising, barely making it to the bench and down the tunnel to the dressing room. However, Morrison is soon back on the Kraken bench.

Grubauer completes his shutout with a clutch save on Alex Kerfoot with 40 seconds left. It's Grubauer's second whitewash this season, 22nd of his career.

The Kraken conclude the home portion of their 2023-24 season on Thursday when the San Jose Sharks visit CPA.
