Seahawks star right tackle Abe Lucas shows progress after knee surgery

This offseason the Seattle Seahawks turned over their coaching staff, cleared the decks at linebacker and safety and used their first-round pick on a lethally promising defensive lineman. However, the single-biggest factor in their success this coming season may be just how well right tackle Abe Lucas recovers from offseason surgery on his knee.

Last year Lucas wound up missing 11 games due to chronic pain in his knee - an issue that dates back to his time at Washington State. With Lucas on the sidelines Seattle struggled to find an adequate replacement, with Jake Curhan, Stone Forysthe and even Jason Peters all trying and failing in his place.

This offseason the Seahawks brought back George Fant and signed him to a deal that's better than the usual ones you see for swing tackles. That means they're hedging their bets in case Lucas has to miss more time. There's good news on this front, though.

It appears that Lucas is healing well and showing progress. Here's a video Lucas shared on his Instagram stories of going through some pass sets.

If Lucas can't play at least 12 games, Geno Smith and the rest of Seattle's passing weapons might find another low lid hanging over their heads. Seahawks fans should keep their fingers crossed that Lucas is ready by Week 1.
