One more day of heat for many locations Wednesday

High temperatures reached new peaks on Tuesday in spots around Western Washington, including 97° in Seattle, 100° in Olympia, and a daily record of 88° in Bellingham. The Seattle high temperature was the warmest since the historic all-time heat wave of June 2021.

Temperatures tonight will slowly cool down to the 70s during most of the overnight and the low to mid-60s by daybreak. The slowest cooldown at night will be in urban areas of King, Kitsap, and Pierce Counties.

Wednesday is our transition day but it’ll still be hot in many locations in the interior. As onshore wind flow off the Pacific picks up through the day, the beaches and Olympic Peninsula will only warm to the 60s and 70s.

Wednesday’s highs in Olympia and many spots south of Puget Sound will have high temperatures in the mid-80s. But locations like Seattle, Bremerton, Tacoma, and Eastside communities of King and Pierce counties will be in the upper 80s to around 90 again. For this, the Pinpoint Alert Day and Heat Advisory remain for Wednesday.

In the Cascades and points east, a Red Flag Warning is in effect through Wednesday. Conditions now are hot and dry but on the east slopes and into Central Washington, winds will become gusty out of the northwest through the day Wednesday with some gusts around Ellensburg and Yakima regions topping 40mph late in the day. Any active or new fires could spread quickly.

Cooler air arrives for all Wednesday night and Thursday with highs back in the 70s to low 80s – still warmer than average but nothing like what we’ve been through.

It remains mainly sunny with Seattle highs in the low to mid-80s and morning lows in the upper 50s well into next week. There are no substantial rain chances out there through the middle of next week, and likely beyond.
