Seattle police have arrested a man for vehicular assault following a single-car collision early Friday that closed the eastbound lanes of the West Seattle Bridge for more than three hours.

Patrol officers first responded to the crash in the eastbound lanes at the First Avenue South offramp at 3:26 a.m., with the Seattle Department of Transportation reporting the crash at 3:38 a.m.

Seattle Police called it an “injury crash” and said all eastbound traffic was being diverted.

According to SPD, a 33-year-old man was driving at a “high rate of speed” and struck multiple concrete barriers when he crashed on the bridge. The man, found to be under the influence of alcohol, was arrested for vehicular assault. He only sustained minor injuries and is expected to be booked into King County Jail pending medical evaluation.

A 25-year-old woman in the passenger seat was treated by Seattle Fire Department crews and taken to Harborview Medical Center for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The lanes reopened at 7 a.m. after detectives with the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad processed the scene.
