Until the pads come on nothing what you read about during the offseason actually matters. Today, the Seattle Seahawks finally got down to business and started practicing something that resembles what they'll be playing when the real games begin in September.

Here are five takeaways from the team and the beat reporters who were on-site at the VMAC.

    1. WR Tyler Lockett says defense wins Round 1

Seattle's offense has plenty of talent to go around, but today it was the defensive unit that got the better of them, according to an account by wide receiver Tyler Lockett.

Head coach Mike Macdonald is credited with being the top defensive playcaller in the game today, so it will be interesting to see if this theme continues throughout the season.

    2. Another INT for DB Julian Love

Nobody's had a better week than safety Julian Love, who signed a three-year contract extension worth up to $36 million a few days ago. Since then he's posted two interceptions against Geno Smith. Today's pick apparently came with some walk-out music, per The Athletic.

    3. LT Charles Cross impresses in 1-on-1s

As for the line of scrimmage, left tackle Charles Cross finally delivered on some of the improvement we've been hearing about at practice. ESPN reports Cross was the best performer on either side during one-on-one pass rush drills.

    4. A minor scuffle

At this time of year it's completely normal to hear reports of brief skirmishes breaking out at training camp practices across the league. Today it was Seattle's turn, as wide receiver DK Metcalf and cornerback Riq Woolen briefly got into it. There is sadly no video of the fight.

    5. More Bobo

While the defense won the war, the most impressive play of the day came from the offense. The team's number four wide receiver Jake Bobo apparently made a diving catch for a touchdown on a pass from Sam Howell.

There's no video of Bobo's catch available as of yet but we imagine the team will be sharing one soon.

You may have noticed that today's practice was a little bit earlier than usual. It was intended to get the team used to those early east coast kickoffs, of which there are three on the schedule this season. The Seahawks return to the practice field tomorrow at their regular time, 1:00 p.m. Pacific.
