Former Seattle Seahawks first-round draft pick calls time on his NFL career at the age of 28

Eyebrows were raised back in 2018 when the Seattle Seahawks spent a first-round pick on a running back in Rashad Penny.

Just over six years on from his selection by Seattle, Penny has now called time on his NFL career at the age of 28.

Having caught the eye with his explosiveness and impressive production at San Diego State, Penny never came close to justifying his selection with the 27th overall pick.

Injuries consistently blighted Penny's five seasons with the Seahawks, his best year coming in 2021 when he had 749 yards rushing and six touchdowns.

Penny left Seattle for the Philadelphia Eagles last year, with the Seahawks moving on to a dual-threat backfield featuring Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet.

However, Penny played just three games in his sole season for the Eagles.

He signed for the Carolina Panthers this offseason but was on Tuesday placed on the reserved/retired list by Carolina .

Penny's career comes to an end with him having recorded 1,951 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground. He also scored an additional touchdown as a receiver.
