The Seattle Seahawks remain active during training camp. Easily the biggest weakness last year for Seattle was their abysmal run defense. Acquiring Leonard Williams via trade last year and selecting Byron Murphy II No. 16 overall in the 2024 NFL draft will surely help the Seahawks, but there is always room for improvement.

Seattle has now added another piece to compete for a roster spot to help boost this ailing defensive line. They have signed defensive tackle Rodney Mathews.

Mathews went undrafted out of Ohio University, and was signed by the Green Bay Packers. However, the Packers released him in early May.

During his career with the Bobcats, he played in 41 games, recorded 43 total tackles, three sacks and even snagge himself an interception.

Now, Mathews has his second shot at breaking into the League with the Seahawks. At this stage in the offseason and preseason, players are auditioning not only for the team they are currently employed by, but for others who may keep an eye on those around the league.

Given Seahawks general manager John Schneider’s connections with the Packers, it is not surprising he swooped in to pick up someone who was cast aside by Green Bay.
