Why Seahawks QB Geno Smith missed the seventh practice of training camp

The Seattle Seahawks held their seventh practice on their 2024 training camp schedule yesterday at the VMAC. One key player was missing from the group: starting quarterback Geno Smith. Apparently he had a good reason for sitting out Wednesday's practice, though.

According to a report by Gregg Bell at the Tacoma News Tribune , Smith is dealing with a minor hip and knee issue after getting accidentally hit and hitting the turf during Tuesday's practice. He was inside the building getting treatment.

"The Seahawks’ undisputed starting quarterback got accidentally banged and landed on the turf in practice Tuesday. Wednesday, he was inside the team’s facility getting his knee and hip “worked on,” a league source told The News Tribune. Smith missed the seventh practice of training camp Wednesday."

It sounds like it's only a minor injury, but it's not like the team would come out and say if it was a serious issue, anyway. If Smith sits out more days of practice then it will be something to watch for.

In any case, yesterday's practice was no big deal to miss. Head coach Mike Macdonald had players do a very light walk-through kind of practice instead of doing a third straight day of hitting with full pads on. Apparently Macdonald calls these kinds of practices ACT - an acronym standing for alignment, communication and technique.

Seattle's first preseason game will come next Saturday night on the road against Jim Harbaugh and the Los Angeles Chargers.
