Seattle Seahawks salary cap space update after extension for safety Julian Love

The Seattle Seahawks rewarded Pro Bowl safety Julian Love with a contract extension last week. When the news broke the terms of the deal were reported to be three years, worth up to a total of $36 million . It's a nice carrot for a player who's earned one and it also helped free up a little bit more breathing room for Seattle's salary cap space.

According to the details for Love's deal available at Over the Cap , this extension lowered his cap hit from around $8 million in 2024 down to around $6.5 million. That freed up around $1.5 million in extra cap space, which bring the Seahawks' total available money to somewhere around $10 million.

That should be more than enough money for the team to address any roster holes that might pop up during the regular season, as well as giving them room to bring in a free agent or two before the games begin in September.

Right now the team's top priority appears to be signing veteran free agent center Connor Williams, who spent the last two seasons with the Miami Dolphins starting at that spot after playing left guard four years for the Dallas Cowboys. Williams has visited with the team and passed a physical after suffering a major knee injury last year. However, he doesn't seem to be in a hurry to sign. Williams is currently weighing his options and trying to find the best deal between a few suitors.

It looked like linebacker might also be a need when both Jerome Baker and Tyrel Dodson were out with injuries, but they have since returned to the field and yesterday's release of rookie Easton Gibbs indicates they feel confident in their depth at that spot.

The only other major item that may need addressing before Week 1 is the edge rotation. In theory Dre'Mont Jones moving outside helps the lack of depth beneath starters Uchenna Nwosu and Boye Mafe, but there's no guarantee he'll produce at that spot. So, adding another proven pass rusher should also be on general manager John Schneider's list.
