    Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith.

The Seattle Seahawks had a bit of an injury scare when it was revealed that starting quarterback Geno Smith was going through some imaging and tests for hip and knee issues that had developed this week.

The good news for the Seahawks is that imaging did not reveal any serious issues and Smith should not miss any time, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Smith has been the Seahawks' starting quarterback the past two seasons and has helped the franchise remain competitive in the post-Russell Wilson era. After bouncing around the league as a backup, Smith has been a late-bloomer and established himself as a viable starting quarterback in the NFL.

He has passed for 7,906 yards the past two seasons as the Seahawks' starter while accounting for 50 touchdown passes and only 20 interceptions. He has helped lead the Seahawks to a winning record each season, including a surprising playoff berth in the 2022 season.

Smith will turn 34 early this season and probably is not the long-term answer at the position when it comes to leading the Seahawks back into serious Super Bowl contention. Despite that, he is still an above-average starter and a major piece of the Seahawks' offense.

Especially given the lack of depth behind him at the position, where Sam Howell and PJ Walker are competing for the backup spot, Smith missing significant time — or any time — would be a major issue.

It seems for now they will not have to worry about that. That is the best possible news for the Seahawks early in training camp.
