NFL insider says backup Seahawks WRs had dropsies in latest practice, with one exception

With Brandon Aiyuk ( probably, maybe, who knows? ) on his way out of Santa Clara, the Seattle Seahawks will soon have the undisputed best wide receiver unit in the NFC. At the top there's DK Metcalf, who's been on fire at training camp, followed by Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who was the top receiver prospect in the 2024 NFL draft class. Then there's the highly-underrated veteran Tyler Lockett, followed by the greatest and most perfect beloved number four wide receiver of all time in Jake Bobo.

There's no such thing as a perfect unit, though - and there are other teams around the league who may not be able to match Seattle's top four but are nevertheless deeper overall at this position. The Houston Texans come to mind now that Stefon Diggs as at the top of their receiver room, which was already damn good.

In any case, the Seahawks got a bitter taste on the back end of their WR room at yesterday's training camp practice. With Lockett sidelined they had to play their backups more and it didn't go well. Gregg Bell at the Tacoma News Tribune reports the group was plagued by a bad case of the dropsies. However, there was one notable exception - apparently Cody White made a brilliant one-handed touchdown catch for the play of the day.

Poor practices are normal for backups, especially at this point of the NFL's calendar year, so this is no big concern. Also, remember that in addition to those superb top four wideouts, tight end Noah Fant and running back Ken Walker will represent significant portions of the team's passing attack under new offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb.

Bottom line: unless the Seahawks get absolutely ravaged by injuries at this spot they won't need to worry about having to play their scrubs much this year, anyway.

Other headlines from yesterday's practice include another dominant day from DK Metcalf, who scored two touchdowns on deep passes from Geno Smith, who's had no limitations the last couple days after returning from the hip/knee issue that sidelined him for a few practices last week.
