DK Metcalf steps up and has words with Seahawks teammates after practice with 5 fights

The two best units on the Seattle Seahawks roster this year are their wide receiver corps and their cornerback room . Both are filled with talented young players who are incredibly competitive and at the top of their game at what they do for a living. It's only natural for some steam to be let off at practice between these groups, but today the simmering tensions exploded like a volcano during practice.

According to accounts by beat reporters who were at the VMAC, no less than five fights broke out during Wednesday's training camp session, including a couple of scuffles with real punches thrown. Most of the brawls were between receivers and corners, but two linemen (edge rusher Derick Hall and guard Christian Haynes) were kicked out of practice by head coach Mike Macdonald for their part in the nonsense.

After practice was over Macdonald went on NFL Network and talked about what happened. He correctly diagnosed the problem as being that the Seahawks are tired of facing each other every day in practice and are ready for a live opponent. Macdonald also added that star wide receiver DK Metcalf spoke with the team after practice and things ended on a good note.

It's nice to hear Metcalf finally embracing some leadership with this team, but it's also true that he's been directly involved in more than one fight at camp. (We're all trying to find the guy who did this.) Today alone Metcalf was spotted swinging a helmet at another player on national TV, which is just a bit over the top for what should be a potential team captain.

Hopefully today's fights released enough of the tension under the surface that we won't have another before Saturday's preseason debut.
