Selinsgrove, Pa. — Alcohol is frequently at the center of adult social events, which can be a living nightmare for those recovering from substance use disorders. To help people in recovery and their families socialize without the involvement of drugs, Susquehanna Valley Mediation is hosting a special "Sober Swim Night" on July 6.

Sober Swim Night is part of the new Families in Recovery program, explained below:

"Families in Recovery will be providing FREE monthly activities to anyone in recovery and their families! This is an opportunity for families that have been affected by addiction to enjoy a safe, sober place to relax and have fun together as well as connect with other families in recovery," said Shawnee Robel, Families in Recovery Program Director for SVM. "One of the basics to recovery is changing our people, places, and things, but we also need to fill that with a healthy alternative. This program can open the door to show people in recovery that they can still have fun and also make important connections to help support them in their new life of sobriety."

The event will be held from 7-9 p.m. at the Selinsgrove Community Pool, offering a fun-filled evening for all attendees. Activities include swimming, games, and opportunities for families to bond in a supportive and sober environment. The event aims to show that recovery is not just about abstaining from substances, but also about finding new, healthy ways to enjoy life and build lasting connections.

Susquehanna Valley Mediation invites all individuals in recovery and their families to join this meaningful event. For more information about Sober Swim Night and other Families in Recovery activities, please contact SVM at 570-524-3895 or familiesinrecovery@svmediation.org .
