Classic statements that resonate for a lifetime
The world class “Champions Ride” annual saddle bronc match is here again, Saturday, Aug. 3, at the rural Sentinel Butte, N.D., “Home on the Range.”. The inaugural 1957 Champions Ride Match pitted five of our own state world class cowboys against five of the world’s best from outside our state’s boundaries. North Dakota’s “Fabulous Five” featured Alvin Nelson, who went on to win the world title that year, and brothers Tom and Jim Tescher, all three with a Sentinel Butte address. Rounding out the team was Duane Howard, the great saddle bronc and bull rider from Minnewaukan, and Joe Chase of Halliday.
