Mt. Vernon Man Dies in Thursday Night Crash
MT. VERNON (WMIX) – A Mt. Vernon man died Saturday in a St. Louis area hospital while attempting to recover from injuries he sustained in a crash late Thursday night. Twenty-one-year-old William Penrod III, while driving alone, was reported to have run off the roadway near Straw Road and into a ditch on the southbound side of Route 148. Fire Department officials say Penrod was trapped in his vehicle when they arrived on scene and had to pop open a back door to get him out.
