New Kensington-Arnold officials promise repairs to dilapidated veterans memorial
As they’ve gotten older, Michele Eckman and her husband, Richard, don’t travel back to the Alle-Kiski Valley from their home outside of Dallas as often as they used to. So when they came to the area in June, they made a point of stopping by Valley High School in Richard’s hometown of New Kensington to see the “Veterans of Valley High Memorial.” It includes his name on a brick recognizing his service in the Marine Corps from 1969 to 1970 after his 1967 graduation.

Aqua seeks rate increases; public hearings set before regulators
HARRISBURG – Water bills could be on the rise in the Shenandoah area, among other parts of the state next year, and regulators want your input. Aqua Pennsylvania filed an application in May seeking a rate increase from the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission. Aqua purchased the water system serving the Greater Shenandoah Area and took control last year.

The fight over brine spreading is a rural-urban tension
(The Center Square) — Rural-urban tensions split lawmakers on whether to reinstate spreading oil and gas wastewater on roads to suppress dust. “It all comes down to risk assessment. Are the impacts to the environment outweighed by the benefits created?” Burt Waite, a retired geologist and hydrologist, said during a House Republican Policy Committee hearing on brine spreading. “Most of us would agree that some environmental impact is inevitable and acceptable to have safe roads to drive on.” ...
West Nile Virus detected in more area communities
The Allegheny County Health Department says mosquito samples collected around the area have tested positive for West Nile Virus. The areas include Allegheny Commons, Fineview, Garfield, Perry South, Morningside and the Hill District.
Pittsburgh Police and Community Search for Missing Siblings in Beechfield
The Pittsburgh community is on high alert as local authorities are intensely searching for two young boys reported missing yesterday in Beechview. According to the City of Pittsburgh police blotter, the Special Victims Unit (SVU) detectives are following up on the disappearance of Jarrod Dolphin, 7, and Jyseir Dolphin, 10, who were last seen running out of their residence on the 1400 block of Dagmar.
