8-Year-Olds Open Hopewell Tournament with Big Win Over New Brighton
Hopewell- A great start for our 8-year-old All-Star team as they open up the Hopewell Tournament with a 16-4 win over New Brighton. The Hopewell team pounded out 25 hits, while holding New Brighton to 12. Leading the way for Hopewell were Brody Benson with four, Jonah Honess, Aaron Ackerman, Bennett Beron and Deacon Ankrom all with 3. Vikings with 2 hits included Michael Kurta, Tommy Carver, Tristyn Trkulija and Jordan Peck.
Top WPIAL Recruit Earns Offer from West Coast Powerhouse
Matt Sieg is one of the top recruits in the WPIAL, regardless of class, and he’s continuing to rack up major offers. Sieg — a 6-foot, 170-pound four-star athlete from Fort Cherry in McDonald, Pa. — holds offers from Akron, Minnesota, Nebraska, Penn State, Pitt, Syracuse, WVU and Wisconsin, and he’s playing quarterback and defensive back at the high school level. It appears likely that Sieg will be recruited primarily as a safety, but wherever he ends up on the field, he’ll be one of the highest-recruited WPIAL players in the class of 2026.

U.S. Steel testing emergency evacuation system at Clairton plant on Saturday
CLAIRTON, Pa. (KDKA) -- U.S. Steel will be conducting emergency tests at its Clairton plant on Saturday.The company will test emergency system equipment from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 27. U.S. Steel says the annual test makes sure the plant's emergency system is working so employees and surrounding communities can be protected in case of an actual emergency. The test will begin with a simulated emergency and evacuation, using sirens, lights and loudspeakers that U.S. Steel says will be heard in nearby communities. The plant's emergency systems will be activated one at a time, and the company says there are five distinct areas that will be tested, taking up to seven hours. Local government and emergency agencies, including fire, police and Allegheny County 911, have been notified, U.S. Steel says. U.S Steel's Clairton plant is located on 400 State Street in the Mon Valley along the Monongahela River.
