LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Fourth of July festivities kicked off Wednesday at Oak Lake Park. Family and friends gathered around the lake to celebrate at the Uncle Sam Jam Independence Day Celebration. All evening, Oak Lake Park was filled with food trucks, live music, and games for people to enjoy.

In a tragic incident on July 1, a neighborhood in Nebraska experienced a brutal shooting that left four children and three adults wounded. The events unfolded when a man, identified as Billy Booth, opened fire on a gathering near Parklane Street and Crestline Drive. According to the Crete police, Booth fired his shotgun at about 15 people who were simply gathered across the street from his residence.

South Dakota’s top prospect commits to Nebraska
The top prospect in the state of South Dakota has committed to the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Shawn Hammerbeck is a 6-foot-6, 260-pound offensive lineman for Winner High School in Winner, SD. Hammerbeck selected the Husker over Kansas State, Minnesota, and Texas Tech. Reports have Nebraska looking at the offensive lineman as a tackle, although he has been identified as a possible defensive lineman.
