Corps: federal levee system performing well against Missouri River flooding

That was the message from the corps emergency management officials from the Omaha and Kansas City districts during a daily conference call Tuesday afternoon. Floodwaters that have worked down the Missouri River after torrential rains brought devastating flooding in northwest Iowa have also been the first test for the levee system that was repaired and upgraded following the 2019 Missouri River flooding throughout much of southwest Iowa, southeast Nebraska, and northwest Missouri. Spencer Giles is the emergency management chief with the corps' Omaha district. While they have been monitoring impacts from heavy rains this week, Giles says current river forecasts do not pose any risks to the federal levee system.
