Shamokin Dam, Pa. — A Sunbury man was charged for allegedly stealing $950 from a wallet a customer left on a table at a McDonald's restaurant.

The victim was at the Shamokin Dam McDonald's on July 6 when he ate there and accidentally left without his wallet. When the victim returned to the restaurant a short time later, he found the wallet sitting on the table but the cash was missing. The victim told Officer Jacob Shipman of Shamokin Dam Police he had around $840 cash that went missing, according to the affidavit.

Shipman reviewed the restaurant's surveillance footage which showed at 9:12 a.m. Rubin Joel Perez Jr., 23, entering the restaurant with Korelis Nieves, 25, and two children. Perez and Nieves sat at a table next to where the victim left his wallet near the Playplace. Perez is seen on camera picking up the wallet, looking through it, and smiling as he appeared to proudly show Nieves the money, Shipman wrote in the affidavit. The two appeared to have a conversation about the wallet and then Perez allegedly took the money before packing up to leave with Nieves and the two children.

Shipman contacted Perez several days later, who admitted he took money from the wallet in the amount of $950, according to the affidavit.

Perez was charged with misdemeanors of theft and conspiracy to commit theft. Nieves was charged with misdemeanors of conspiracy to commit theft. Both have a preliminary hearing scheduled for Aug. 19 at the office of District Judge Scott A. Zeigler.
