ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WNCN) – Sharpsburg mayor Robert Williams Jr. is facing another DWI charge after officers pulled him over in Rocky Mount on Monday evening, police said.

According to the Rocky Mount Police Department, officers received a call at around 5:37 p.m. from an anonymous person reporting a reckless driver traveling southbound on N. Wesleyan Boulevard.

Police said they found the vehicle and officers initiated a traffic stop. They discovered the driver of the vehicle was 59-year-old Sharpsburg mayor Robert Williams, who was driving a white Dodge Ram pickup truck.

Williams was arrested on several charges, including DWI, driving while license revoked, open container and concealed handgun permit violation, police said.

“Williams is still being processed regarding this investigation,” according to a news release from the Rocky Mount Police Department.

This marks the fourth time that Williams has been arrested for DWI since taking office in 2018.
