Laurel Police Confirm Suspect Escaped With Handcuffs On During Drug Raid
Laurel Police have updated a story that only First State Update brought you yesterday. Officials said on July 19, 2024, the Laurel Police Department announced an increased police presence at the Holly Brook Farms Apartment Complex on Grazing Court in Laurel. This was in response to two simultaneous residential search warrants executed as part of two multi-month drug dealing investigations. These searches resulted in the recovery of a loaded firearm and several hundred doses of heroin, leading to four felony arrests.
One killed, one injured in Bridgeville crash
BRIDGEVILLE, Del. – An overnight crash on Wednesday has claimed the life of one and injured another in Bridgeville. At around 1 a.m., police say a 2017 Dodge Durango was traveling in a northbound lane of Sussex Highway, approaching the area of Newtown Road, at the same time a 2013 Hyundai Sante Fe was traveling southbound in a northbound lane of Sussex Highway, in the Dodge’s path of travel. Both vehicles were traveling in the left northbound lane as they approached each other from opposite directions. To avoid colliding with the Hyundai, the Dodge moved into the right northbound lane of Sussex Highway, but the Hyundai did the same, causing a crash. The Hyundai then flipped before both vehicles came to rest.

Bishopville man arrested, charged with felony shoplifting
SELBYVILLE, Del. – A Maryland man has been arrested on felony shoplifting charges in Sussex County. Shortly after 2 p.m. Wednesday, troopers were called to Harris Teeter in Selbyville for a reported shoplifting. It was learned that an unknown suspect has stolen more than $5,000 of consumable merchandise from the store since June.
Wilmington Man Arrested on Multiple Charges Following Traffic Stop in Dewey Beach
DEWEY BEACH, DE - A Wilmington man was arrested on multiple charges following a traffic stop in Sussex County. On Friday, July 19th, at approximately 11:30pm, Dewey Beach Police Department officers conducted a traffic stop on a blue 2020 Hyundai Sonata with a New York registration. Officers stopped the vehicle after they observed it cross over the solid "white fog line" on the right side of Coastal Highway. Dewey Police also say that the driver was improperly wearing his seat belt.
Kayaker Rescued from Rehoboth Bay Following Extensive Search
REHOBOTH BEACH, DE– Sussex County fire crews collaborated on the water rescue of a kayaker Friday in the Rehoboth Bay following an extensive search. Dispatch received reports shortly after noon on July 19 of a 40-year-old kayaker who could not be found. Officials say he had last been seen in the area of Savage Ditch and Massey’s ditch.
Dorchester County Man Charged in Assault Case
DORCHESTER CO., MD. - A Cambridge man has been charged on multiple counts after Cambridge Police Department officers responded to an assault call on Wednesday afternoon. The call came at 12:55pm after two victims on Muir St. reported they had been assaulted by three men, according to the Cambridge Police Department. The department says that one of the suspects held the victims at gunpoint. One of the suspects then reportedly punched the victims multiple times, while another hit the victims with a shovel, according to the police statement. The same subject then reportedly attempted to hit one of the victim’s service dogs with the shovel.
