Bishop Miege alumni hosts free youth football camp

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — After four years of playing at the University of Minnesota, wide receiver and Bishop Miege alum Daniel Jackson is back to host a free youth football camp at his Alma mater.

“Definitely just giving back to the city. Giving back to the youth, having them do things that maybe I didn’t get to do,” Jackson, Miege class of 2020 said.

He graduated with a Bachelor’s in Youth Studies and hopes his first annual camp helps to inspire and develop young players both on and off the field.

“We’re doing the 40-yard dash, we are doing agility drills,” 2nd-grade player Christopher Green II said.

“It makes me feel like I’m included to the other team and like I’m great.”

“It’s very rewarding, it’s very refreshing getting an opportunity to see him really work on some in-depth skills to help him move to the next level in football,” parent Christopher Green said.

Jackson’s cousin and fellow Miege alum Jafar Armstrong says they grew up going to camps like Saturdays and more than anything hope the players had fun.

“Coming here in the morning, you know competing against kids who you might be lifelong friends. It’s just a great time coming out competing, racing, just having fun with guys like Daniel,” Miege class of 2017, Armstrong said.

Jackson has one more year of playing eligibility after a year of COVID-19 and hopes to get drafted in the NFL after that.

“Hope they feel inspired, hope they get the energy to play college football and really take academics and not only the sport serious, but academic as well,” Daniel’s Brother Damon said.

“Means a lot to them I know being able to see an athlete like Daniel.
