Michelle Obama’s Rare Hair Transformation May Be Her Most Daring to Date

2024 has been the year of daring hair transformations. We’ve seen it with Ben Affleck , Hayden Panettiere, and now, former First Lady Michelle Obama .

In case you missed it, on Aug 9, Michelle shared a snapshot of herself at a bookstore for National Book Lovers Day. She posted the photo to her Instagram with the caption reading, “Happy National Book Lovers Day! I always love checking out new bookstores and scouting out new reads. Are you reading anything right now that you’d recommend? Let me know in the comments below! 📚”

In the photos, we see Michelle looking through books, rocking a casual look, and a new hairdo that fans are obsessed with. For this pic, she showed off her ultra-long, braided hair, which is a total 180 from what we’ve seen from Michelle in the past.

Many fans commented under the photos, saying, “COME ON BRAID!!!!!!,” “YES! That’s all I see here! Gorgeous,” and “Perfection. Always. 😍”

And yes, of course, we’re obsessed too!

In the past, we’ve seen her natural curls, straightened, curled , and more styles with her dark hair. Heck, we’ve seen quite a few different colors, from jet-black locks to light-brown curls. But this long ‘do is so different!

We love seeing her so confident , rocking every look she wants; especially since it wasn’t always that way. Per the Washington Post , she said she straightened her hair a lot during her husband, former US President Barack Obama’s, presidency to help the US adjust to having a Black family in the White House.

“Nope, they’re not ready for it,” she said, saying she straightened her hair to avoid controversy. “Let me keep my hair straight. Let’s get health care passed.”

But now, she wears her hair any dang way she wants (and looks amazing doing so)!
