    UPCOMING EVENTS MAY 9 Thursday • SCSO employees luncheon The Shelby County Sheriff ’s Office will honor employees with a luncheon Thursday, May 9 at the Shelby County Sheriff ’s Office located at 100 Hurst Street in Center. Donations from individual, business or organizations desiring to contribute through food, desserts, drinks, gifts, donations, etc. will be greatly appreciated.     MAY 18 Saturday • Fish fry fundraiser Center Police Department Ladies Auxiliary Fish Fry Fundraiser for Officer Luis Acuna who had emergency surgery and facing follow up. Hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until sold-out at the Center Police Department at 1020 Shelbyville Street. Drive-thru pick up will be available. Plates $10 with fish, fries, hushpuppies, and a drink. Pre-sale tickets are available at the Center Police Department, or by contacting a CPD Ladies Auxiliary member. Also, CPD Ladies Auxiliary raffles for three drawings to win great prizes. Tickets are $5 each, drawing May 4.

    May 18 Saturday • Jackson Cemetery homecoming The Jackson Cemetery annual homecoming at 10:30 am. including a congregational song service with special song selections. Bro. Larry Andrews will bring a message followed by brief business meeting and a potluck meal in the fellowship hall. Bring tables and chairs if easting outside.     • Memorial Day Observance VFW Post 8904 program in the 1885 Shelby County Historic courthouse t 11 am. Help us decorate our Memorial Wreath and read the names of all from Shelby County who died from the Mexican American War in 1846 to today’s War On Terror.

    Monthly – First Saturday • Scrap Happy Quilters at 9 a.m. at the James Community House at 348 FM 2608, about 1/4 mile on right. Bring sewing machine, supplies, and $2 donation to help James Community House with expenses.

    Monthly - Third Monday • Shelby County Veterans of Foreign War Post 8904 meets at the Post Home 617 Highway 96 North at 6:30 p.m. Prospective members welcome to sit in on the meeting.
