Wachholtz and Ballard honored by Governor for volunteerism
Paula Wachholtz of Panora and Cathy Ballard of Guthrie Center were honored June 25 during the annual Iowa 2024 Governor’s Volunteer Awards ceremony. The two were among more than 400 Iowans similarly honored. This was the 40thyear of the awards program. Individuals and groups were honored, and length of service awards were also given.
DNR Studying Ways to Increase Deer Population in Southwest Iowa
(Lewis) The Iowa Department of Natural Resources hosted several public meetings on the importance of managing the deer herd. John Lorenzen from the DNR Office in Lewis says some areas of the state, including southwest Iowa, currently show a significant drop in the deer herd needed to satisfy deer hunters.

New Venue For Dubuque Arts Council Summer Concerts Announced
According to the Telegraph Herald, the Dubuque Arts Council has announced a new venue for its Music in the Gardens concert series in 2025. Beginning next year, the concerts series name will be Music at the Star and will take place at the Aliant Energy Amphitheater located in front of the Star Brewery in the Port of Dubuque area.
