Teams dig in for ShenDig '24
(Shenandoah) -- Rain or shine--this year's ShenDig Barbecue Competition takes place this weekend. Teams from several surrounding states are setting up trailers with various barbecue equipment in the lot behind the Elks Lodge on Highway 59 for the 2024 competition. Mace Hensen co-chairs the Forum to Revitalize Shenandoah's ShenDig Committee. Hensen tells KMA News an army of volunteers pitched in for preparations early Thursday morning.
Shenandoah grad Martin crowned Fremont County Fair Queen
(Shenandoah) -- Recent Shenandoah High School graduate Abigail Martin looks forward to representing Fremont County at the Iowa State Fair. Martin was crowned 2024 Fremont County Fair Queen Thursday evening as festivities got underway at the Fremont County Fairgrounds in Sidney. Martin, who has been active this week with a stag judging contest, a communication event, and an upcoming cattle show and pie auction, says she was honored to hear her name called.
Sunday RAGBRAI stop in Henderson to feature ‘Hillbilly Waterpark’
(Radio Iowa) – Thousands of bicyclists on RAGBRAI — the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa — will leave Glenwood Sunday and peddle through the small southwest Iowa towns of Silver City, Henderson, and Emerson arriving in Red Oak. Shawnna Silvius, Red Oak’s mayor, says they’ve been told to expect 20-thousand people — along with 10-thousand support vehicles. “I don’t think some of us can quite imagine how many people are going to be there,” she says.
Red Oak council makes offer for city administrator position
(Red Oak) -- Red Oak officials have made an offer to fill one of the city's top administrative positions. Following a closed session during a special meeting late Thursday morning, Red Oak Mayor Shawnna Silvius tells KMA News the Red Oak City Council made an offer to one of the applicants for the city administrator position. The city hired Hinson Consulting to assist in the search after the resignation of Kyra Smith in April. While not disclosing the candidate's name, Silvius says the individual was one of three candidates-- Joseph Gaa, Redmond Jones, and John Millan--who received a tour of the community Wednesday afternoon.
