Shepherd Schools requesting $25 million for district-wide upgrades

Shepherd Public Schools is seeking $25 million for improvements throughout the district, including safety upgrades, new classroom construction and an expansion of extracurricular activities.

The proposal would not increase tax rates and would maintain the current rate until 2042.

Superintendent Carrie Gauthier says the proposal would go towards better preparing students for the future and allow the community to better utilize the school for events.

“Shepherd Public Schools is just the heart of our community, and many community members still attend events, even though they no longer have students in the district,” she said. “Our students, staff and community are always our number one priority. And all the proposed improvements will ensure that we will always be the sweetest little town around.”

The upgrades include the construction of five new classrooms, a new wood and metal shop and facility upgrades for theater and wrestling.

Gauthier also says the more secure windows would provide energy savings, since they can better insulate the school from outside temperatures.

Voters will have the chance to weigh in on the proposal with the Aug. 6 primary election.

More information on the bond can be found at Shepherd’s website .
