American athletes who secured podium finishes at the Paris 2024 Olympics are bringing home medals and also earning substantial financial bonuses.

The U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) is among the countries offering monetary rewards for medalists, with additional payouts for track and field athletes from World Athletics, marking a historic first for the sport.

While the exact bonus amounts for the Paris Games have not been disclosed, during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the USOPC awarded $37,500 for each gold medal, $22,500 for silver, and $15,000 for bronze.

This year, World Athletics is also offering $50,000 to winners of individual track and field events, and relay teams will share an additional $50,000.

Gabby Thomas, a standout U.S. sprinter, is expected to leave Paris with the largest financial haul among American track and field athletes, having won solo gold in the women’s 200-meter race and contributing to two gold-winning relay teams.

Outside the track, gymnast Simone Biles and swimmer Torri Huske each won three gold medals, with Huske and swimmer Regan Smith earning five total medals to Biles’ four.

These athletes, along with others like sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson, also benefit from lucrative sponsorship deals, further boosting their earnings. Richardson, for example, has secured a multi-year, multi-million-dollar contract with Nike.
