Hearing Delay Stalls Dismissal of Charges Against Former Judge Christina Peterson In Officer Assault Case

The legal troubles for former Douglas County Judge Christina Peterson are far from over as her Aug. 22 hearing in Georgia was unexpectedly postponed.

Peterson is fighting to have criminal charges dismissed from a June 2024 incident where she allegedly punched an Atlanta police officer outside a Buckhead nightclub.

The delay occurred after Peterson’s attorney , Fulton County Commissioner Marvin Arrington Jr. , missed the scheduled court appearance.

According to reports, Arrington Jr . had previously filed for a leave of absence , though the prosecutor only received notice late the night before.

Arrington Jr. was reportedly attending the Democratic National Convention in Chicago during the time of the hearing, as indicated by posts on his Instagram account.

Peterson, who was arrested on June 20, faces multiple charges , including simple battery against a police officer and obstruction of law enforcement .

The incident , captured on video , shows Peterson intervening in a fight between a man and a woman outside the Peachtree Road Red Martini Restaurant and Lounge . Her attorney argues she was acting as a “good Samaritan” trying to protect an assault victim , not attacking the officer.

The embattled ex-judge’s situation has drawn attention, as Peterson was removed from the bench by the Georgia Supreme Court due to previous judicial misconduct .

She was replaced by attorney Valerie Vie and barred from holding any judicial position in Georgia for seven years.

A new court date for Peterson’s hearing has not yet been scheduled.
