SHINNSTON W.Va. (WBOY) — With Monday being the start of the next fiscal year for the City of Shinnston, new members of the City Council were officially sworn in after being elected during May’s Primary Election.

On top of the swearing-in ceremony, the council also selected Patrick Kovalck from among their ranks to be the city’s Mayor and chose Amanda Sayer to be Vice Mayor. Councilmembers also dealt with some housekeeping by agreeing to send a letter to the previous City Manager Chad Edwards asking him to respect his contract’s buyout clause.

Kovalck was selected to be the city’s mayor for the next two years and previously served as mayor from 2018-22. He told 12 News that he’s “kind of a nuts and bolts kind of Mayor” and that he wants to complete work on projects for the city surrounding things like infrastructure as well as the water and sewer systems.
