Barbara Norton's Back to School Shoe and Backpack Giveaway is close. Learn how to register.

Barbara Norton's African American Celebration Parade Committee's 20th annual Back to School Shoe and Backpack Giveaway will occur on Saturday, July 27, 2024. The first chance to sign up for the event that will take place at the Pines Road Walmart will be on July 15.

Nortons's efforts have put shoes on thousands of local children's feet, just in time for the new school year. "I believe this community has always stepped up and reached out to show the people how much we care," said Norton.

Pre-registration is required and there are three times and places to do so.

• Monday, July, 15 - 3709 Greenwood Rd - 3:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m.
• Monday, July, 15 - 6363 Hearne Ave #115 - 5:30 p.m.- 7:30 p.m.
• Tuesday, July 23 - 1867 Nelson St - 3:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m.

In order to register proof of government assistance (blue sheet) and a state ID is required. It is asked that the children attend the event in person on July 27 at the Pines Road Walmart location.
