A Louisiana woman who allegedly shook a toddler to death in 2020 has been found guilty of murder.

On Thursday (July 11), Tatianna Burns of Shreveport was convicted of second-degree murder in connection to the June 2020 death of an 18-month-old girl identified as " A.W. ," per PEOPLE .

Burns, who wasn't related to the toddler, allegedly shook her for almost an hour.

"Burns stated that she then began to forcibly shake [A.W.] for about 45 minutes to an hour trying to get her to wake up," police documents state. "Burns advised that while she was on her way to the hospital with [A.W.] she was stopping at red lights and shaking her again, but she would not respond."

According to reports, the district attorney's office called in 11 witnesses to prove Burns was responsible for the girl's death. The state also consulted physicians who confirmed that A.W. suffered "acute, abusive head trauma."

Burns reportedly has been under investigation for torturing another non-familial child who she cared for in 2013.

The woman is scheduled to appear in court again on July 23. Burns reportedly faces a mandatory life sentence without the option of suspension, parole, or probation.
