Galena Librarian Awarded APPLE Credentials
DeAnn Whited, Director of Galena Public Library, was recently awarded her APPLE credentials for new library directors. APPLE stands for Applied Public Library Education and is a one-year training program to help library directors begin to understand the background and foundational information needed to make better decisions for their communities. APPLE training begins at a two day seminar with library consultants and other APPLE students from across Kansas. Follow-up webinars are scheduled monthly on topics such as library budgets, library laws, technology, collection development, planning, customer service, and library facilities. In addition to the webinar content, participants are required to complete a variety of homework assignments designed to help them analyze their local library and implement improvements. APPLE training is supported by Southeast Kansas Library System and five other regional library systems around the state, as well as by the State Library of Kansas.
