    More details emerge from Delaware Co. plane crash

    SIDNEY, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) — After a tragic plane crash in Sidney resulted in the death of a family of five on Sunday, the National Transportation Safety Board has released more information revealed in its investigation.

    On Sunday, June 30, a family of five flying back to Georgia from Oneonta following a baseball tournament in Cooperstown crashed in Sidney .

    The Piper PA-46-319P plane is said to have taken off from Albert S. Nader Regional Airport in Oneonta at around 1:40 p.m. according to NTSB. They say flight tracking data for the plane was lost about 12 minutes after its departure from the airport.

    The plane crashed near the Trout Creek area, with the debris path running for about one mile. NTSB has collected most major parts of the plane except for the rudder. The plane is going to be recovered today to an offsite facility for further evaluation.

    NTSB plane crash investigations revolve around three primary areas: the pilot, the aircraft and the operating environment. As part of this process, NTSB will collect data on:

    • Flight track data
    • Recordings of any air traffic control communications
    • Aircraft maintenance records
    • Weather forecasts and actual weather and lighting conditions around the time of the accident
    • Pilot’s license, ratings and recency of flight experience
    • 72-hour background of the pilot to determine if there were any issues that could have affected the pilot’s ability to safety operate the flight
    • Witness statements
    • Electronic devices that could contain information relevant to the investigation
    • Any available surveillance video, including from doorbell cameras
