The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner Tuesday identified an 88-year-old man as one of two people who died in a crash in Signal Hill.

The two-car collision occurred about 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the 2800 block of Cherry Avenue, Signal Hill police Corporal G. Friend said.

The driver and passenger of one vehicle died at the scene, Friend said.

The medical examiner identified one of the occupants as Sheldon Turchin. It was unclear if he was the driver or passenger.

A woman in her 70s, who also died, has not been publicly identified.

The driver of the other vehicle was injured and survived.
