MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — A judge in Montgomery County ruled that a 20-year-old will spend the next 12 years in prison after being convicted of attempted murder for a shooting that happened just over two years ago.

On July 12, 2022, Sorie Mansaray, who was 18 at the time, shot at a vehicle in Silver Spring, hitting a passenger in the car.

The Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office said Mansaray and the victim had encountered one another minutes before the shooting at the Dash In gas station in the 11000 block of New Hampshire Ave.

When the vehicle the victim was in pulled out of the gas station parking lot, Mansaray walked up next to a Metro bus stop and fired as the car drove by.

The situation was captured on surveillance cameras and can be seen below:

The passenger was taken to a hospital for treatment of their gunshot wound injuries and survived.

“The shooting occurred during daylight hours, along one of our busiest roads in Montgomery County. This sort of reckless violence in our community is unacceptable and we will not tolerate it,” said State’s Attorney John McCarthy in a press release.

Mansaray, now 20, was convicted on April 18 on charges of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, possession of a regulated firearm by a person under 21 years of age and other related charges.

He was sentenced to 30 years in prison, with all but 12 years suspended. Upon his release, he will also serve five years of supervised probation.
