    Silver Spring man charged in fatal Takoma Park hit-and-run

    MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Montgomery County detectives said a man was charged in connection to a fatal hit-and-run that happened on June 3.

    The Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) said during the investigation, detectives learned that Efrain Diaz Romero, 34, of Silver Spring, was driving a black Chevrolet Silverado east on University Blvd East, when he collided with Candido Noe Rojas Rojas, 42.

    Police said Romero drove away after the crash.

    Rojas was taken to the hospital. He died there.

    During the investigation, police located the Chevrolet and identified Romero as the suspect.

    He was arrested and charged with failure to immediately return and remain at the scene of an accident involving death, and several other traffic-related charges.

    MCPD said Romero was taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit and was held without bond.
