Telluride mayor dismisses ethics complaint against housing authority commissioner
Telluride’s mayor, Teddy Errico, released a formal decision on an ethics complaint that was filed against Telluride Housing Authority (THA) Commissioner Dan Enright. Errico determined that there were no grounds to remove Enright from the THA Board. Another THA Commissioner and Telluride Town Councilperson, Ashley Story Von Spreecken, had...
Rural Colorado town’s battle against solar project raises questions about the cultural cost of clean energy
It seemed like a good idea. Put a large solar array on 640 acres of sagebrush and cedar about 30 miles northwest of Telluride. There was already a transmission line running through the property and only some cattle poking around in the shrubs and trees. The Colorado State Land Board,...
Craig Ferguson criminal case dismissed
One of the two cases filed last year against Planet Bluegrass Owner and Director Craig Ferguson was dismissed earlier this year at the request of the Boulder District Attorney Michael Dougherty, the prosecutor in The People of the State of Colorado vs. Craig Charles Ferguson. The records were sealed upon dismissal and the parties have not wished to comment on the record.
New historic interpretive signs installed
It’s no secret that San Miguel County has a rich history. Beginning with its earliest Native American inhabitants through today, there’s a story to be told on every corner, across every vista, and along every trail. Last week, members of the San Miguel County Parks & Open Space Department and the county Historical Commission completed a long-envisioned interpretive sign installation at the observation deck in Ilium Valley, and at the Keystone Gorge Loop Trail, which follows the San Miguel River as it plunges downstream west of Telluride.
A brief civics lesson and a thank you to Kevin Geiger
Ongoing baseless attacks, time consuming record requests and frivolous litigation, as well as the astonishing vitriol on social media and in print including anonymous videos and Valley Cow cartoons attacking Town Councilpersons and Town of Telluride staff are, to put it as civilly as I can, disappointing. Watching disparate situations turn contentious over my twenty-six years in town, I’ve appreciated the passion, civility and resilience of our diverse, funky, passionate and open-minded community, despite our differences in opinion.
Stalactites, music and yo-yos — at the library!
For years now, libraries have begun lending more than just books and magazines. Non-book items like camping gear and telescopes have been a secondary staple at Wilkinson Public Library in Telluride, and the programming offered is also as varied as the items available to borrow — why not try a cave squeezebox, for example.
