For the first time in his pro career, Davis Thompson bagged a PGA Tour victory when he topped the field at the 2024 John Deere Classic Sunday. The University of Georgia product finished the tournament with a score of 28-under 256 – four strokes better than the runner-ups (Michael Thorbjornsen, Luke Clanton, and C.T. Pan).

Not many people knew about Thompson prior to his win at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois, let alone the fact that he used to play basketball in high school.

But leave it to the social media team of the PGA Tour to spread the word that Thompson has some game on the hardcourt as they shared a montage of his hoops highlights from years ago.

According to his profile on the PGA Tour’s website , Thompson played high school basketball for Lee-Scott Academy in Auburn, Ala. and even helped the team win a 2016 state title.

Thompson has been on a roll of late, as he’s finished with a top 10 in each of his last three starts. He had a T-9 at the US Open and a T-2 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic before winning the John Deere Classic.

A former SEC Golfer of the Year winner, Thompson has made the cut in 15 of 20 starts this season with a pair of runner-ups and 11 top 25s.
