June 30, 2014: Two Derechos Produce Widespread Wind Damage and Numerous Tornadoes. The two derechos impacted northern Illinois and northwest Indiana in quick succession during the late afternoon and evening of June 30, 2014. Widespread wind damage was caused by the storms, particularly by the second derecho, which also ended up producing a total of 33 tornadoes across northern Illinois and northern Indiana. 22 of the tornadoes occurred in the National Weather Service-Chicago forecast area.
