Pitt commissioner approve search for new jail health provider
The Pitt County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted to authorize the sheriff to seek new bids for providing health services at the detention center. The 6-0 vote came after Commissioner Tom Coulson declared he wouldn’t support the request because Sheriff Paula Dance didn’t present it. “I am sorry. Three Winterville men have been charged in connection to a June shootout in southeastern Pitt County that was connected to a robbery in Greenville earlier that day, law enforcement and court documents said. A Greenville man was charged with driving while impaired after he drove his vehicle into a ditch in southwestern Pitt County. At 10:55 p.m. July 22, the State Highway Patrol responded to an unspecified stretch of Bell Arthur Road where a 1994 Lincoln passenger car had crossed the center line and careened off the left side of the roadway into a ditch. Animal shelter halts cat intake for 30 days
Pitt County Animal Services (PCAS) has announced the shelter will not accept cats and kittens through August 26. The purpose of halting intake services is to effectively quarantine and treat the cats diagnosed with feline calicivirus (FCV). FCV is host-specific, meaning it can spread to other cats but not to other animal species or humans. FVC is a significant cause of contagious upper respiratory infections (URIs) in cats, also called the “cat flu.” FCV can also cause oral diseases or limping syndrome. ...
Regional water authority prepares for new PFAS regulations while aiming to keep costs down
The Neuse Regional Water and Sewer Authority (NRWASA) is exploring options for a PFAS filtration system in order to comply with recently proposed EPA drinking water standards. The authority has received some funds from the state for its initial pilot study. Still, it's unclear just how much of the financial burden the authority and its customers will have to bear if a costly PFAS filtration system is installed.
County making improvements to waste convenience sites
Operators of Pitt County’s 14 solid waste and recycling convenience sites are facing potential fines if they do not maintain their locations, the department’s leaders told county commissioners.
