Judge declines to order New York to include ‘abortion’ in description of ballot measure
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A New York judge said Friday he won’t force state election officials to tell voters that a proposed antidiscrimination amendment to the state’s constitution would protect abortion rights, dealing a blow to Democrats who pushed for the change. The decision from Judge David A. Weinstein came in a lawsuit over the language that voters will see on ballots this November explaining what the proposed Equal Rights Amendment would do if passed. Democrats wanted the state Board of Elections to include the words “ abortion ” and “LGBT,” arguing that they would make the amendment’s purpose clearer to voters. Supporters of the measure said it would protect abortion access by expanding the state’s antidiscrimination protections. But Weinstein said he was reluctant to declare that the amendment would protect abortion rights.

Zay Jones will not play against his former team in Week 1. On Friday, the NFL suspended wide receiver Zay Jones five games for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. The suspension stems from a domestic violence accusation that occurred in November 2023. Jones was accused of abusing the mother of his child and injuring her neck. Four Charged in Dunkirk Drug Raid
Four people were taken into custody following a raid at an address in the City of Dunkirk's Fourth Ward early Thursday afternoon. Narcotics investigators from the Dunkirk Police Department and the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at 56 West Doughty Street at about 12:45 PM, marking the second time that address was searched in less than a week. 32-year-old Kevin DeJesus-Rivera and 37-year-old Christian Ayala-Gonzalez of Dunkirk, who were charged in last week's raid, were taken into custody again. Also arrested were 25-year-old Jade Stocks of Cassadaga and 47-year-old Yamil Carrasquillo-Torres of Dunkirk. Investigators seized 5.5 grams of crack cocaine, scales and packaging material for the sale and distribution of narcotics, and $150 in cash. DeJesus-Rivera was charged with 3rd- and 5th-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, 1st-degree criminal nuisance and 2nd-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia.
